Things that wake your brain up !!

May 10th, 2010 by cheryl

Just watched Blindside. Thought I would like it. And I did.  BUT  …. what did  I really like? The idea  that people still care and trust in the human spirit and what it can achieve.   Isn’t that what we believe,  in the Fitness, Pilates,  Health, GYROTONIC, Yoga and any other area of Mind/Body/Spirit well being  world? Or isn’t that what we need to believe in? I say , “Yeah, Yeah Yeah.”  This is what our clients need and all of us as well. The spirit of the impossible dream and building  avenues to make it happen. Believe ! Life is short and I am aiming for Great Happiness.

Tired of what the news is pouring out in the media. I think it is time to create a new way…OPTIMISIM  and THE  BELIEF that we can  all just get along . Wow! Did I just write that ? What a cliche.  I am ready for something different.  How about you? Maybe, Pay It  Forward with a Blindside Moment. Or better yet, Blindside someone by Paying It Forward.

Oh, I must add I am a football fan, as well. Love it when my team wins.

Hibiscus Tea does what?

April 30th, 2010 by cheryl

Looks like a spot of tea may be a way to lower blood pressure. A recent study at  Tufts University found that people were able to lower their systolic blood pressure by drinking as little as 3 cups of herbal hibiscus tea each day; this beneficial effect is thought to be the results of the tea’s high level of  antioxidants.

Again, a little tidbit from IDEA Fitness Journal/April 2010. Never underestimate Mother Nature and her ability to find a solution.

Yoga as a Olympic Sport ? Why not ?

April 21st, 2010 by cheryl

Rajashree Choudhurry and her husband Bikram Choudhurry, creator of Bikram Yoga, are enthusiastic about establishing yoga as a competitive sport in the United States. They have been staging regional competitions throughout the United States that will culminate in a national championship competition. The ultimate goal is to qualify yoga as an Olympic Sport for the 2020 summer Olympic Games.

Not all yoga community members believe that competitive yoga is beneficial, although the practice has existed in India for several years. Those against  competition argue that it is egoistic: that it implies that the most physically gifted are somehow  ” more yogic ” than others and that it focuses only on the physical and detracts from the spiritual heart of yoga.

I think the more exposure of a healthy lifestyle to the world the better. Namaste .

Things that make you go HMMM……

April 18th, 2010 by cheryl

In a Harvard study, they looked at exercise and the mind. They started by asking Chambermaids how much exercise they got in a course of a week. The subjects were women who were exercising all day at work, but because exercise is generally thought of something they did outside of work, they actually saw themselves as not getting any. Despite their beliefs, exercise is  good for one’s health, they were expected to be healthy. Actually, at the start of the study they were not.

They were divided into two groups and the researchers explained to one group that their work was exercise. They were told, ” You’re getting more exercise then the surgeon general recommends.”  They were shown how various exercises they did were equivalent to working on different machines at the gym. When researchers returned a month later, they asked the chambermaids if they changed any habits or routines they had been doing before the study. Exercising outside of work? Change eating habits?  There had been no changes. The only difference was that now they saw their work as exercise.

In that month, this group had lost weight, reduced their body mass and blood pressure levels. All of this happened because of their change in  mindset.

How wonderful is this!! The power of the mind!!!
